Edge on v1903 doesn't load websites

After upgrading Win10 to v1903, Edge will no longer load external websites (msn.com, google.com, bing.com), although it does load our corporate (internal) Intranet as well as our (external) website. Internet Explorer loads all sites without any issue. Edge gives the "Hmm...can't reach this page".

We are on a domain network with corp firewall. Edge is enabled on domain connection through Windows Firewall and the local computer's Windows Firewall is turned off on domain connection. We typically have IPv6 disabled for network device, but have also tried enabling it to no avail.

What are we missing? We can ping and tracert to the websites without issue, and as I mentioned Internet Explorer can access them as well. Only Edge can't.

Have your tried clear temp files and cache on your browser?

 

Open Run> Type %temp% an clear temp files.

 

Open Edge > click the three horizontal dots in the upper right corner > Settings.

Under Clear browsing data select Choose what to clear > click Show more > select all the boxes Clear ,Restart PC > open Edge. Try again

 

Have you tried to re-install your browser?

 

Make sure Edge is not running > Open File Explorer > Click View and then check Hidden items.
Navigate C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Packages > Replace "UserName" with your user name (You can quickly navigate to the location, by copying and pasting the path in Run command box).
Look for the folder named Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe then delete it.
Close all running applications > restart you PC.
Type PowerShell in the search box > Right-click on Windows PowerShell > Run as administrator.
Type C:\users\yourusername (Replace "yourusername with your actual user name of the account).
Copy and paste the following command in the prompt Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers - Name Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage - DisableDevelopmentMode - Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml" -Verbose} > If successful you'll see Operation completed for message then Restart your PC and check again.

 

Also make sure that the DNS service is running. This process is turned on by default, but there’s a chance that installing  updates, or performing certain actions turned it off. To make sure that the DNS client service is running, do the following:

 

  1. Type services.msc in the search box and press Enter.
  2. Find the DNS Client service.
  3. If the service is not running, right-click on it, and go to Properties.
  4. Click on Start and set Startup Type to Automatic.
  5. Save changes, restart your computer, and check if the issue still persists.

Have you checked the proxy settings?

What is the exact build / version of your browser?

To fix this We can’t reach this page error in Microsoft Edge; you can try these suggestions:

  1. Clear Edge browser cache
  2. Enable IPv6
  3. Start DNS client
  4. Change default/preset DNS
  5. Reset internet connection
  6. Run the Internet Connections troubleshooter

1] Clear Edge browser cache

You should clear Edge browser cache and then see if you can load the webpage.

 

2] Enable IPv6

If you have recently updated your computer to a newer version of Windows 10, and following that, Microsoft Edge and Store apps have stopped connecting to the internet, you need to enable IPv6.

 

3] Check DNS Client Service status

There is a Service called DNS Client this should be running all the time to use the internet. However, if it has been stopped due to any reason, you should enable it.

Open Windows Services Manager and double-click on DNS Client Service. If the Service status is Running, there is nothing to change or do. However, if it is shown as Stopped, you need to click the Start button. Its Startup type should be set to Automatic.

 

4] Switch to Google Public DNS

To change the DNS Server settings, press Win + R, type ncpa.cpl and hit the Enter button.

Right-click on the currently running network connection profile and select Properties.

Double-click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).

Make sure you are on the General tab.

Select Use the following DNS server addresses and enter these following:

  • Preferred DNS: 8.8.8.8
  • Alternate DNS: 8.8.4.4

You can also use the Cloudflare’s new DNS service.

 

5] Reset TCP/IP

Sometimes the current settings can cause the problem, and the best solution is to reset TCP/IP to default.

 

6] Run Internet Connections Troubleshooter

In Windows 10 Settings panel, you can find a troubleshooter that may help you fix this internet connection issue in Microsoft Edge. To run it, open the Troubleshoot page in Windows Settings and click Run the troubleshooter button under Internet Connections.

Yes, temp files and browser cache clear was attempted before any other troubleshooting.

Tried reinstalling Edge; did not work.

DNS Client is running. Other host names on my network are resolving and Internet Explorer can browse to the websites. Other computers NOT running Win10 v1903 can browse using Edge without issues. Only the computers we've upgraded to v1903 are exhibiting this issue.

We do not use a web proxy. The browser is set to auto-detect proxy settings.

Edge version is 44.18362.1.0 (it is the version that was included in the Win10 v1903 ISO)

We do not have Trusteer Rapport Endpoint Protection installed.

1. Edge browser cache clear was attempted.

2. Enabling IPv6 was attempted (we had found that suggestion in another post).

3. DNS Client service is started/running and tested that it works fine - other host names and web URLs resolve using nslookup. Only computers that have been upgraded to v1903 are exhibiting this issue with Edge browser. Our other computers running v1809 can browse the web sites without any problem, and we can browse the sites using Internet Explorer on v1903.

4. Tried changing the DNS to use Google's public, does not help. I don't believe this is a DNS issue as it is only Edge on computers running v1903 that are exhibiting this issue.

5. Tried the TCP/IP reset/restart - did not work.

6. I believe the network/Internet connections are working, but tried running the Internet Connections troubleshooter anyway - the troubleshooter reported that it "could not identify the problem".
