Control of File Access

Is there a way to set file permissions so the owner, with full access, can open the file without getting the read only message because another user, with read only permission, has the file open?

The file is on a shared network drive.

Hi Philip, Could you please provide us more information about file format and extension? Because it depend on applications more than rights. Regards

The file we are working with is a Microsoft Excel xlxs sheet.
