Editing VMConnect session settings

When you connect to a VM with Virtual Machine Connection in enhanced session mode, you're prompted to choose some settings for display and local resources.

The main thing that changes between sessions is usually display configuration. But since you can now resize after connecting starting in the latest Insider build, you might not want to see this page each time you connect. You can select  "Save my settings for future connections to this virtual machine" and you won't see this page for future sessions.

However, you might want to occasionally configure local resources like audio and devices, so there are 2 easy ways to get back to these settings:

  1. In Hyper-V Manager, you will see an option to " Edit Session Settings... " for any VM for which you have saved settings.

  2. Open VMConnect from command line or Powershell, and specify the /edit flag to open the session settings.

Andy

Unfortunately this doesn't work for Windows 7. Hyper-V version 10.0.18362.1.

Also isn't working in Windows 11 Pro. :(

I've found that the 'Edit Session Settings...' option only appears for me when the VM is running and the 'Enhanced Session' is enabled (which in turn I think requires guest services etc under integration). If the machine is in any other state (paused, off...) then the 'Edit Session Settings...' option will not be present.

This could do with some improvement in my opinion - such as allowing these settings to be part of a machine definition, in the same way the VirtualBox or VMware Player/Workstation do, and thus editable without having the machine on.

I hope that helps someone.

Unfortunately the "Edit Session Settings..." command doesn't actually open the settings dialog, if you've chosen "Save my settings for future connections to this virtual machine" -- it simply opens a new connection window, not the settings dialog for the connection.  This is on Windows 10 22H2.

It doesn't work by following your instructions, just wonder how to bring back the "Connect to ..." pop-up window, after selecting the "Save my settings for future connection to this virtual mathine", 'cuz I really need to add some extra settings. Many thanks if any help could be given.
