In the right side of every community page there is Top contributor which list users. The current metric for top contributors is the number of likes. I have objection for this, and I believe you should revise this mechanism. Let me share you an example. In the Windows forum someone shared a CPU is not compatible with Windows 11 and several users with the same concern as it and this user becomes the Top contributors even though only visit the forum once. The Top contributor should be based on number of metrics such as:

Number of Reply

Number of Questions Marked as Answer

Number of Like

Vote or Mark as Answer for other posts

etc.

You may add value to such activities like 2 for number of replies (e.g. 10 reply = 10x2=20 point) and so on. This would be a fair method to display top contributors in each forum. With current model (based on number of likes), someone who just visited the forum and post a question with numbers of like becomes top contributor of week or months while people who actively participate and reply and answer questions never recognize because the current metric is only based on number of likes. Also note that number of likes doesn't mean you are a contributor and just mean your post is popular and it could be just one of the metrics.

"Revise the Metrics for Top Contributors"

I think it is enough to change the name of this ranking - if the only indicator currently is the number of likes that a Member of MTC received - > then let's just mark it as (Ranking Likes) that a Forum Member has obtained.

But I agree that calling Forum participants " contributors " is definitely unfortunate!

The analysis of all these activities in a given Community requires a complicated algorithm and it does not seem that MTC is technically prepared to apply all these proposed improvements!

I don't even pay attention to it, but maybe others want to be the best?

I shared this feedback because I really want share idea to improve the MTC.

Algorithm is a bit complicated, but it is possible.

There could be a method like sorting based on number of likes, answers ,etc.

However, I believe there is need for another metric when we consider someone as the most contributor in a forum.

I'm not sure what is the goal for proposed change. Every categorization has pros and cons and where is no one which satisfies everyone. Actually, does that matter if Top Contributor or Occasional Visitor answered on your question?

Well, for me, I really care about the answer no matter who posted it. Because I am technically understanding topics. However, there are non-technical people in this forum and having response from Top Contributor, MVP, Microsoft. would give them idea that the answer is trusted. In addition, a good algorithm would contribute to the personal development. For example, consider Stack Overflow forum. Many developers actually manage to secure a job because they own a good reputation profile. This algorithm could be a motivator, so more experts contribute here and having more experts' volunteers means a better way to response to questions.

Thank you for the feedback, its interesting that we have been discussing this as well. Unfortunately, at the moment the platform doesn't allow this, but we are looking to the next version of the platform coming next year to see if we can get a little more creative with how we decide who are top contributors.
