when viewing a post on my surface, i cant select the menu because it is hover activated instead of click

Edit: was told where the setting is tucked away.  new recommendation to make it click enabled by default for users.  very confusing for touchscreen users, and maybe mobile too, havent tried it there.

In your profile's "My Settings">Preferences>Display page, you can uncheck "Display menus dynamically with mouse over" to make the menus click enabled rather than hover.

Well there you go, thanks @Deleted!

In that case, maybe change this request to make click enabled the default, everything else in the world seems to default to that.

I can +1 that to make it the default @Brent Ellis (well, I can +1 the idea, at least)

It is a big improvment over the Yammer interface that we can go back and edit posts/ideas, comments, etc.

Thanks for the feedback. Our default on this will stay as is but users are more than welcome to change the setting on their own.
