So, if you see my profile my name is set as null null , and Microsoft Tech Community does not allow me to change my display name which is quite odd. My Office 365 account is managed by my org. However, while registering it was clearly mentioned that the name could be changed at later stages.
How should I go about this?

Hello!
For MTC Null Null, this is considered a user name that cannot be changed!
The name in the MTC is: @................ and it can be changed!
I changed so and it is allowed if you want to have your own name then please create a new account in MTC using a private Microsoft account, but also the user's name will not be change!
