Better way to see unread messages

I find it very hard to see what messages are unread. The sub forums show a counter, but when I click on the sub forum it doesn't show my what conversations are actually new. 

Also after looking at a message from the all up view or from the view in the sub group it doesn't markt them read. I actually have to click on each message and see each response before it marks them read. 

Makes my it super hard to have a 0 count and stay on top of things.

I may only add my +1 as in few other conversations here with same topic. IMHO, one of top priorities, that is discussing from very beginning of this network.
