Florida Broward Online Student, private messaging

Hi I'm new to this online learning experience but while within my school's Microsoft teams lessons I can see people also in the class that I recognize but I can't seem to figure out how to message them privately (I don't have their phone number or the like to message them on another platform) so I was wondering if this was intentional and if so, Why? I feel like by stopping students from being able to talk individually to others and so on it makes it harder to make friends and such.

@Joshua_vargas You can message a person personally while on a call. You can hover over the persons name in the call and you will see a chat icon. This icon will take you to 1:1 chat with that person.
