Here’s a new Knowledge Base article we published. This one talks about an issue where installing a System Center 2012 Operations Manager fails if there is not enough free disk space for the Data file folder or the Log file folder.

=====

Symptoms

Installing System Center 2012 Operations Manager cannot continue if there is not enough free disk space for the Data file folder or the Log file folder.
On the Configuration , Configure the operational database page, the error "The Data file folder location does not contain enough disk space for a database" is reported for the data file folder specified for the operational database.
On the Configuration , Configure the operational database page, the error "The Log file folder location does not contain enough disk space for a database of this size. The required disk space for the log file is 50% of the database size." is reported for the Log file folder specified for the operational database.

Cause

System Center 2012 Operations Manager setup cannot determine the free disk space for the operational database if the target directory for the Data file folder or the Log file folder is within a mounted NTFS folder and the free disk space of the volume the folder is mounted to is less than 1024 MB for the Data file and less than 50% of the database size for the Log file. This occurs despite the fact that there is enough free disk space on the volume hosting the mounted folder.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, make sure that the volume that the mounted folder for the Data file folder and the Log file folder is mounted to has the required free disk space of at least 1024 MB for the Data file folder and 512 MB for the Log File Folder. Also ensure that the initial size of the database is set to 1024 MB. The size of the database can be increased post-installation within SQL Server Management Studio.
