Update: 11/19/2011 - Please note:  For now this solution has only been tested with Orchestrator Beta .  More info will come soon on when SCO RC will be supported.

Update 11/22/2011 – Important !  The Cloud Service Process Pack will not be upgradeable from Beta to RC.  Please use it only for testing purposes for now.  We intend to support upgrade from RC to RTM in the future.

Update 11/25/2011 – Important !  There is a known bug with trying to install on SQL named instances instead of the default instance of SQL Server.  This issue is fixed and there is support for RC in a "beta refresh" build which has been made available to SCSM and Private Cloud TAP customers.  If you are not a TAP customer and need access to the "beta refresh" build please escalate that ask to Travis Wright via your Microsoft account team.

The Microsoft Solution Accelerators team is pleased to announce the System Center Cloud Services Process Pack beta.   This project was code named “Andes” if you have heard us refer to it by that name before.

Download the System Center Cloud Services Process Pack Beta .

System Center Cloud Services Process Pack Beta is Microsoft’s Infrastructure as a Service solution built on the System Center platform. With the System Center Cloud Services Process Pack, enterprises can realize the benefits of Infrastructure as a Service while simultaneously leveraging their existing investments in the Service Manager, Orchestrator, Virtual Machine Manager, and Operations Manager platforms.

Corporate datacenters are in transition. The recent shift from physical to virtual environments is now being replaced by an interest in moving to the cloud—specifically both private and public cloud infrastructures. Private cloud management assets are being delivered with System Center 2012 and a key part of this solution is the self-service experience. This experience is now significantly enhanced by the System Center Cloud Services Process Pack.

The benefits offered by System Center Cloud Services Process Pack Beta for the enterprise include:

  • Deep customization and extension of the cloud services experience; natively supported by the System Center suite of products.

  • Reduced cost, effort, and time to deploy cloud services to organizations that already leverage the System Center platform.

The benefits offered by System Center Cloud Services Process Pack for consumers of IT within the enterprise include:

  • Standardized and well-defined processes for requesting and managing cloud services, including the ability to define Projects, Capacity pools, and Virtual Machines.

  • Natively supported request, approval, and notification to enable businesses to effectively manage their own allocated infrastructure capacity pools.

The System Center Cloud Services Process Pack Beta offers a self-service experience to facilitate private cloud capacity requests from your business unit IT application owners and end users, including the flexibility to request additional capacity as business demands increase.

Update 11/11/2011:

If you get this error message during setup:

This is how to resolve it:

The installation of Cloud Services runbooks fails at the step, “Import Cloud services runbooks,” with the error message, “An error occurred while executing the custom action_ImportRunbooks.” The installation log file shows the error, “System.Management.Automation.PSSecurityException: AuthorizationManager check failed.”

To fix the issue

1. Extract all files from “System_Center_Cloud_Services_Process_Pack_Beta.zip” into a folder.

2. Find the folder SCORunbooks under the folder Setup .

3. Right-click on the two PowerShell scripts, ProcessSCORunbook.ps1 and SCO-COM-PowerShell.psm1 .

4. On the General tab, click Unblock and Save .

5. Select Setup.exe from the extraction folder used in Step1.

6. Right-click and select Run As Administrator . (Make sure that Setup.exe and the Setup folder are in the same location.)

Update 11/19/2011:

If you get an error message like this in the setup log:

Calling custom action CAIaaSRequestMPB!CustomActionLibrary.CAIaaSRequestMPB.ImportRunbooks

ImportRunbooks: Error:<domain>\<username> should be a member of local admin group with UAC (User Acccess Control) settings disabled

System.Management.Automation.CmdletInvocationException: Access to the registry key 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\PowerShell\1\ShellIds\Microsoft.PowerShell' is denied. --->

What you need to do is:

1) Open the registry and navigate to the HKLM\Software\Microsoft\PowerShell\1\Shelldlls key, right click, select Permissions…. and then grant Full Control permissions to the installing user directly

2) Run the set up as elevated administrator

Update 11/20/2011

If you get an error message about “Invalid SQL Instance” when trying to import the runbooks it could be because the ICMP port on the SQL Server is blocked.  Temporarily unblock it to complete setup and then you can block it again if you want.
