I am in the process of running some experiments of measuring energy consumption of software, and to this I have found that the Maxim Integrated Power Meter should be very accurate.
This issue is that it is very difficult to find out which Surface devices has this chip. The ones I have found so far include:
- Surface Book
- Surface Book 2
- Surface Pro 3
- Surface Studio
Ideally, I would like a newer device, but I am unable to confirm if they have it. So, my question is: What is the newest computer which has this chip?
If your surface is up to date, and the Maxim drivers are up to date (Maxim driver support) you should be able to see a sensor named "Maxim Power Meter" inside the Device Manager.
