Keyboard disconnected

Is there anyway to use the keyboard cover unattached? I am using a second screen and need to push the Surface back behind it but I don't want to have to connect a larger keyboard to type. I tried disconnecting and saying no to "switch to tablet mode" but it doesn't type.

Uh, NO. The type cover doesn't have its own power supply, nor does it have a bluetooth or USB transmitter to communicate with the computer. Alternatively, you might try saying no to tablet mode, flip the type cover around and "close" the Surface (the screen will be facing upward, with the keyboard laying on top of it).
