We're pleased to share an update on the roll out status of the Windows 10 Team 2020 Update. Our last update shared in December can be found here.

With the start of a new year, we continue to hear from our customers that they are navigating hybrid work environments. While some companies around the world have begun their returns to the office, many are still working from home and other remote locations. From higher education to manufacturing, customers are relying on Surface Hub more than ever to stay connected and maintain business continuity. We feel a deep sense of responsibility to support our customers in this time, by providing a quality experience and ongoing transparency.

In this time of increased reliance on Surface Hub we have been laser focused on providing a high-quality rollout of the Windows 10 Team 2020 Update. We are continuously working with customers and partners and actively monitoring the deployment of the Windows 10 Team 2020 update globally.

As we look at the data, combined with the continuous efforts of our engineering teams to resolve known issues, we plan to continue the deployment of Windows 10 Team 2020 as detailed below.

Surface Hub 2S

  • Windows Update will be available for U.S., Germany, and other global regions  in late February 2021.
  • Windows Update for Business is currently available globally and will remain available.
  • Bare Metal Recovery (BMR) image is currently available for download and will remain available.

Surface Hub (first-generation)

  • Windows Update will become available based on throttle regions for both 55” and 84” devices in late February 2021.
  • Windows Update for Business will be available globally for both 55” and 84” devices beginning late February 2021.
  • Surface Hub Recovery Tool (SHRT) with the Windows 10 Team 2020 image is currently available for download and will remain available.

Quality updates and fixes for known issues are expected to land for all devices during the same timeframe. Windows 10 Team, version 1703 (RS2) will remain supported through March 16, 2021. Please make sure to read the known issues list before updating your devices to Windows 10 Team 2020.

Thanks for the update Yoav, especially with the 85 inch landing this month.

BMR is still the initial version .572 - this one fails when choosing German language.

Edit: Turns out the installed Teams app is not functional out of the box, but does show as app on the start screen. After installing it separately from the app store, Teams worked just fine.

@Yoav Barzilay

I have reinstalled the Surface Hub 2S three times today... But for some reason Teams (which should be the main feature of this OS) is not working in Windows 10 Teams 2020 Update.

The Teams fly-out window just tells me: Something went wrong with error code / UnknownAuthError.

In Known Issues I see something written about:

Sign in is impacted when Conditional Access policy settings are applied.

But no CA policies are targeted on this IP address. Also the description does not mention anything about Conditional Access, but actually talks about Compliance policies in Intune. So I disabled all compliance policies, but this has no effect.

Azure AD Sign-in events shows failure reason:

Unencrypted v2 access tokens are not supported for first party applications that support consumer accounts. The resource must add a certificate to the onboarding portal to encrypt tokens.

@Coert Kastelein Hi Coert we are seeing the same thing on our Surface Hub, where did you download and install the Teams app from if not from the store?

@kkeirstead I installed Microsoft Teams for Surface Hub through the store.

  1. From your Surface Hub, start Settings.
  2. Type the device admin credentials when prompted.
  3. Navigate to This device > Apps & features.
  4. Select Open Store.

Any update as to when Surface Hub v1 devices will be updated automatically?

Brass Contributor

Hi Microsoft,
Do we have any update when  Windows 10 Team 2020 Update will roll out to v1 devices in the UK?

I have 50 devices I need to update.

Thank you

Windows Update for Business will be available globally for both 55” and 84” devices beginning late February 2021.

Can anyone confirm they got this on their Gen1s yet?

Brass Contributor

Hi @David Phillips ,
No updates on Gen1s as yet.   I had to use the Surface Hub Recovery Tool yesterday to update to 20H2.   Im hopeful the update will come soon as I dont want to be updating 50 devices and re-enrolling into Endpoint Manager.

You had any joy?
