Following our blog post from December 6th , today we are providing further information on the Windows 10 Team 2020 Update.

Starting today, the updated Surface Hub Recovery Tool (SHRT) with the Windows 10 Team 2020 update is available here for first-generation Surface Hubs.

This is the first step in our continued commitment to service our 55” and 84” first-generation Surface Hubs as we prepare to deliver the update via Windows Update and Windows Update for Business in the new year, as we do for Surface Hub 2S.
We encourage our customers and partners to review the list of known issues for this build prior to installing the update.

Happy Holidays from the Surface Hub team!

@Yoav Barzilay, how far into the new year will we have to wait for the Windows Update for this on 1st Gen Hubs? I'm not particularly inclined to use the SHRT and prefer it via Windows Update.

@Jeffrey Allen thanks for the feedback. We will communicate as soon as we have the updates available for our first-generation Surface Hubs.

I have tested this version and noticed the following issues:
1. After OOBE has been running for some time, the system will automatically restart and Windows Update has not been performed before.
2. After performing the update, the December cumulative update and some firmware updates are installed, but this wait is a nightmare, far more than 4 hours, and often hangs.

i now installed the 20H2 via writing direct to the SSD via Device Recovery Tool.
it workes without an Issue (so far) and i am able to test now.

finally the device is now usable in our Company.
we never had SfB running and just bought the Device for testing.
Acutally i am evaluating MTR and looking at the Surface Family too.

Hi @Yoav Barzilay - We have over 100 SH1's to re-image with the Surface Hub Recovery Tool. Can you help me understand what the SurfaceHubReplacementPCDrivers.1.1.003.msi is for, under what circumstances we would use it, and if there are instructions for use?

Thanks and Happy New Year!

Follow-up question: When will newly purchased SH's start shipping with the new image? Thanks.

Microsoft

@Mark Licinio the SurfaceHubReplacementPCDrivers.1.1.003.msi is a pack of drivers for installation on a PC, when used with Surface Hub in PC Replacement mode. It's not required during the installation process of Windows 10 Team 2020.

@Yoav Barzilay, any update on the release of the Windows 10 Team 2020 Update for 1st Gen Hubs?

Copper Contributor

@Jeffrey Allen It is already available. The documentation is terribly. Basically you need to download the latest version of the Surface Hub Recovery Tool: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=52210

Then, you would need to a Bare Metal Recovery via this tool (you need the SATA cable to do this).

The Surface Hub Recovery Tool has no built-in update mechanism...

Silver Contributor

@Philomath845, thanks but I'd prefer it to come out via Windows update as I don't want to have to do a bare metal recovery to install it and if that is the only way to do it, then I won't be updating the devices. @Yoav Barzilay, I sure hope the bare metal recovery isn't the only way to update these devices.

@Jeffrey Allen see the latest update to the rollout here.

Thanks @Yoav Barzilay for the update.
