SD2: Will the Glance Bar be a part of the SDK or will it be system-only?

Iron Contributor

Hi,

I just watched the Surface'21 event and I'm really hyped about the new Surface Duo 2.

One of the most iconic features is the "glance bar". Is it possible that developers can control a part of it or is it just system-only?

Ideas:

- Custom icons

- Custom notification light color

- Custom animation (like the battery status one)

Thanks for all your great work!

Hey @tscholze glad you liked it!

The spine features are explained on the Surface Duo 2 page

Thanks for the customization suggestions - what types of apps do you think would implement these? Will be sure to pass them on to the team.

Awesome, you are blazing fast! :)

Hi @Craig_Dunn, nothing as an actual app idea but I had some possible scenarios in mind:

Development

- Dev builds let light up the glance bar in yellow

- Test builds in blue

- Live builds in "nothing"

Content creation

- Microphone input sound level visualization

- Upload percentage (a full bar means video has been uploaded)

Health & Well being

- Breath in & breath out scale to come down and relax

- Noise level detector visualization

- Rough Blood pressure metric with just a fast glance at the device

- Cycle tracking (1/2 filled glance bar equals date of Ovulation)

Messaging

- How important messages are. Spam just a little lighting, call from daughter's school -> flashing, animation

- Categorizes of messages (red == work, blue == private)

Sorry for the loose bullet points, but such unique visualization would be awesome to get access to!

Oh sorry @Craig_Dunn for not marking your answer.

Let's see and wait if this leds become developer-accessable :)
