Last week, 22 people from Storage Solutions Division joined over 4800 other Microsoft volunteers in United Way’s Day of Caring Event. During the day, SSD members painted, stained and repaired two supported living houses in the North Seattle area.

The houses are the home for 6 gentlemen with disabilities.

Darrell Kleckley was an active member in this Day of Caring. He also contributes to disaster relief agencies: “I love doing these things. When you do it you want it to be your best work. I think our team strived to make the house the best we could for the day we were there.”

The Day of Caring kicks off Microsoft Giving Campaign, an internal initiative to raise donations to charity and nonprofit organizations. As Microsoft matches every dollar an employee gives to charity, the Microsoft Giving Campaign helped to raise a total of 84.2 million dollars in 2007 (with Microsoft match).

Having a quick break from painting the red house.

The sunny day helped – they could paint the exterior of the homes too.

Lauren Alonzo, from SSD Partner team and “Senior Organizer of SSD Day or caring” just received a lovely email from the supported living homes: “One of the residents, Darien, absolutely adores the new color of his house (red is his favorite color). Staff have reported that several times he has gone out to the driveway to sit on his walker and admire the work that was done.”

Thanks Darien for appreciating the work!!
