Welcome to our new blog! This will be the new home for the SQL Server engineering team to communicate important information about SQL Server with the community. We have migrated several SQL Server related blogs to this new home in the SQL Server TechCommunity. With the new format the links from one blog post to another appear to have been lost. This makes finding the specific post you're after more challenging, unless I'm missing something simple.

Is there a way this is working which I'm missing?

Copper Contributor

When I click on Subscribe to RSS Feed for SQL Server Release Services, I receive

Internet Explorer cannot display this feed.

Am I missing something?

Thank you,

Microsoft

@DivingFairy Unfortunately no, you're not missing anything. Due to some technical limitations with the way URLs are formed on this site, the MSDN team is not able to provide post-to-post redirects, only site-level redirects.  I realize this is a huge inconvenience for many folks, and we are attempting to update any existing blog URLs wherever we can find them, but for now the only solution is to search for the blog title on the new site.  I have found that in most cases searching for the blog title returns what you are looking for in the first few results, but I realize it's not ideal.

@Sylvia1015 I'm not sure what is happening there, here's the URL I get when I try to subscribe to the RSS feed for SQLReleases:

https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/gxcuf89792/rss/board?board.id=SQLServer

Let me know if that works for you, otherwise you'll need to reach out to TechCommunity support.

@Pam Lahoud Yes that is the website I get as well but it tells me its unable to download the feed then

This feed download was interrupted.

Thank you

Copper Contributor

@Pam Lahoud It worked now.  Thank you so much!

@Pam Lahoud I hope it can be improved, as these links are also scattered through docs.microsoft, and it's really disheartening to not be able to find the post you're after easily. In cases where people are looking in a hurry, I can see them being discouraged and turning to other sources rather than these blogs, which are often the best source of the information they're after.

In some cases the blog post has been hard to find even with doing searches on the name of the blog. Is there any chance we can improve the way URLs are formed and have a redirect in place at some stage?

Microsoft

@DivingFairy I know, it is a big problem.  We do have an effort underway to identify all the links in docs and update them to the new URLs, so hopefully that will be fixed soon.

The problem is that the TechCommunity site appends a unique ID to each post and this is part of the URL, so there's no way to programmatically determine the new URL from the old one. In order to do a post-to-post redirect, we would have to somehow map these new IDs to the old posts. Given that there are a few thousand posts, this would not be easy to do, and I'm not sure if MSDN would be able to support that many unique redirects. I'm still trying to figure out if there's some way to do this, but I'm not optimistic.

Thanks @Pam Lahoud I appreciate the update and detail on what's going on. :)
