Excel stuck Waiting for Server on Query

I am trying to add a fairly simple EXEC query to Excel.  In SSMS it takes 8 seconds to run and returns approx 85k rows.

When I add the query to Excel the preview pops right up, but when I go to 'Close and Save' it just sits there with the spinny thing next to "Query1" with "Waiting for <server>/database>" message.

I tried a "SELECT * FROM <table>" that returned 230,226 rows, but it took about 30 sec to load them all into Excel.  The same query in SSMS took 10 seconds.

It's been about 10min and we are still "Waiting for..."

A similar EXEC with 1256 results worked and took about 2sec.

HELP PLEASE!

If I let sit for a while I get the following error:

"[Excel DataSource Error] Microsoft SQL: Execution Timeout Expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding"

I have the same issue, any solution to it?

My excel version is Microsoft® Excel® for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2201 Build 16.0.14827.20158) 64-bit
