For the 9th year, the Microsoft CSS team will speak and meet customers at the SQL PASS Summit, being held this year in Seattle, Washington from October 11th through the 14th.
As in past summits, CSS will have a presence during pre-conference seminars, the main conference, and our infamous SQL Clinic.
I’ll be posting more details on our involvement as we progress closer to the conference, but for now let me give you a quick summary of what CSS will bring to the conference.
Pre-Conference Seminar
Adam Saxton has become of the of the best speakers from CSS to come to recent PASS Summits. We are sending him back again this year to spend a day covering the all important, but misunderstood topic of Kerberos.
Kerberos is something that anyone who must deploy SQL Server wishes they didn’t have to worry about. But unfortunately, it impacts everyone and is not a simple subject. Preventing and troubleshooting Kerberos issues is a very difficult topic even for our own CSS engineers. Adam will not only provide you the internals of how it works but give you practical step-by-step advice on how to configure Kerberos and how to diagnose problems should they occur. Kerberos affects all aspects of SQL Server including the engine, Reporting Services, and Analysis Services. Adam, covers it all including integration with Sharepoint 2010 and PowerPivot

Main Conference Talks
CSS has always presented in the main conference on a variety of topics but always focused on two types of talks: 1) Deep internals 2) Troubleshooting.
This year will be no different as we will provide talks in the areas of:

Performance showing off the upgraded
Performance Dashboard reports
for 2011

SQL Azure focusing on important troubleshooting tips and steps you can take to avoid problems building apps for SQL Azure

Performance and engine tuning showing you “all the magic knobs” you may not know about

A deep dive into the internals of tempdb. This will be one of the new “half-day” talks and I fully expect paramedics to be on-call from the brain overload that is likely to take place
SQL Clinic
For the first time last year we partnered with the SQL CAT team for the SQL Server Clinic. It was an amazing success. if you need face to face time with architects or problem solvers, the clinic will be for you. This is something you can take advantage of for no extra charge as part of attending the summit. We love the direct customer interaction so don’t miss a chance to come by and visit. More details on the exact room location at the summit will come later as we get closer to the conference.
So many years ago Ken Henderson encouraged me to get involved with the SQL Community through PASS and it is amazing how much we now contribute. It is a great opportunity for our team to meet customers face to face and to.. “show off a bit” on our skills and knowledge about the SQL Server product.
