Resource Governor to Protect Read Replicas

Copper Contributor

I'd like to suggest an enhancement to resource governor which could protect instances from human users without introducing the additional overhead of a resource governor classification function. If we could assign an AD group directly to a workload or pool, this would allow us to put better guardrails on our read replicas, especially those which are synchronous.

This resource governor enhancement would be useful for other scenarios, for example, placing a junior DBA in a restricted group while they are still learning. What would really take this the extra mile is if resource governor had the capability to limit long running transactions (missing commit) or kill an ad hoc script that creates too much downstream blocking.
