Skype Room System V2 PSTN Calling & Proxy

Copper Contributor

Hi,

We just purchased a logitech smartdock and have set it up as per instructions as a Skype Room System V2 system.  We have a proxy server onsite and we cannot make PSTN calls or join meetings from the console.  The PSTN calls ring the target number, but all you get on the line is static and the call drops.  Similarly when you try to join a meeting from the console it never connects.  I've tried (on the same device) using the full SfB client and this works fine with the proxy.  I suspect that the SRS app has a different proxy setup... Has anyone else encountered this, or can give some pointers on where to start troubleshooting this ?

Thanks,

Andy

When it comes to Skype for Business traffic over proxies, Microsoft recommends bypassing proxies. Proxies don't make Skype for Business more secure because its traffic is already encrypted.

And having a proxy can cause issues. Performance-related problems can be introduced to the environment through latency and packet loss. Issues such as these will result in a negative experience in such Skype for Business scenarios as audio and video, where real-time streams are essential.

Here are all the thing you need to allow for: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2409256/you-can-t-connect-to-skype-for-business-online,-or-...

Hi,

I realise this isn't the best solution, but the full SfB client works fine through our proxy, the Skype Room System client doesn't.  My question was more around the compatibility of the SRS client with proxies rather than the use of proxies in SfB.  Hope this makes sense ?

Have you tried setting/allowing the device to bypass the proxy to confirm that resolves the issue?

Yes.  Bypassing the proxy completely means the SRS and SFB clients will run correctly.  Connected to the proxy oly the SFB client works....

Next thing I would try is running Fiddler.

I would collect a logfiel from the Skype Room System to see why it doesnt like proxy.

Then use Snooper thats part of the Skype for Business  Server 2015 Debugging Tools:

Let me know if you need help udnerstanding the log files.

Turns out the client has a bug.  Despite the proxy being set up correctly the PSTN calling does not use it for calls to mediaedge.online.lync.com and tries to go direct.... The call has been escalated to next level support.  I'll update the thread with any further info. should anyone else require it.

Sidebar - Agree 100%. But what do you do when you have a requirement for DLP in the middle?
