Skype for Business Online support on RDS

Brass Contributor

Hi Experts,

One of our customer raised the below query:

They’ve a customer that is on Office 365 and wants to replace it’s old PBX with Skype For Business in O365 including PSTN Calling from Microsoft. This customer has all of their users working on RDS.

They’ve been reading a lot about the subject and found some articles from Microsoft on how to install Office 365 Pro Plus on RDS, but they were wondering what the best practices are regarding “Skype For Business online” with RDS.

What are the caveats (Specifically on Enterprise Voice) of this solution?

Any pointes would be of great help.

Many thanks for your time.

The trick is that it's real time audio and video travelling through, and in my experience RDS\VDI deployments typically aren't up to the task or weren't built\scaled with real time media in mind.  Ultimately, audio starts to suffer once it's rolled to production.  Most of the time my suggestion is to also roll out desk phones that can connect directly to ensure audio quality is high, headsets can be plugged into those.  That said, check out the following:  https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/skypeforbusiness/plan-your-deployment/clients-and-devices/vdi-envir...
