Is Modern Authentication supported for Skype for Business for Hybrid Deployments?

Copper Contributor

Hi guys,

I wonder if anyone can confirm whether Modern Authentication is supported for Skype for Business in hybrid deployment scenario, as there appears to be differing information from Microsoft on this.

The following article states that Modern Authentication is supported in a Hybrid environment where the on-premises element is solely Skype for Business Server 2015;

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/mt710548.aspx

Whereas the following article states that “Currently Modern Authentication is not supported for Skype for Business Server 2015 and Skype for Business Online split domain hybrid deployments.” The article defines “A hybrid deployment is one in which some of your Skype for Business users are on-premises, and other users are in Skype for Business Online, and both groups share the same domain.”

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3126604

External articles also state that in March 2016 hybrid environments started to support Modern Authentication

Given the differing advice from Microsoft, appreciate advice and guidance from the community on this.  We have a hybrid environment, and our users currently have to use app passwords,  but if we could move away from this it would be better for our users.

Kind regards,

Richard
