How are you accessing Skype for Business Server IM archives post-Teams migration?

IM archives are stored in SQL.  Can I decommission my server infrastructure, leave the SQL database online and continue to use the Export-CsArchvingData cmdlet?  Do I need to leave the core components installed on a server to continue to use the cmdlet?  Does a SQL query exist that pulls this data when needed?  Should I just export everything to the .eml format and let the compliance folks sort through it (seems brutal).
