The SfB Mac team is excited to announce that our October release is now available for download. Below is a list of features and improvements in this release.

Easily change devices when in a meeting or call

Users can select the Devices button while in a meeting or call to select audio and video devices.

Easily switch to a connected audio device

When a user connects an audio device to the computer, the app will ask whether to use the device as the default for calls and meetings.

Choose meeting audio options by pressing Join from Calendar tab

When users select a meeting on the Meetings tab, they can press the Join button to see the Join Meeting Audio dialog box to choose how to join audio. The option to have a meeting call to a phone number is now only available from the Join Meeting Audio dialog box.

Maximized screen sharing

Users will now see screen sharing fill the meeting or conversation window so it is easier to see what is being shared.

Stop screen sharing when you hang up

The app will automatically stop sharing the screen when a user hangs up to make sure others can't see the user's screen after they leave a meeting or call.

Invite users to a meeting through email

The user can easily send an email to someone with information on how to join a meeting by clicking Invite by Email in the Meeting Information dialog box.

Improvements

  • Fixed an issue where the “This call is on hold” message continued to be displayed after switching audio from the computer to a phone.
  • Added a check to prevent users from trying to send IMs when they are not signed in.
  • Fixed an issue that caused phone numbers to be formatted incorrectly when shown in Outlook calendar items.
  • Fixed an issue where a network connection error remains displayed after the network connection is restored.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented redialing calls from the Calls tab.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented display of the current speaker video when someone was sharing a screen in a meeting.
  • Removed the requirement that a user be enabled for Enterprise Voice in order to see the Join Meeting Audio dialog box.
  • Add ability for an administrator to customize the sign-in UI to show the User Name field in the sign-in dialog box as well as in Advanced Options.  To enable this setting, go to Terminal and run "defaults write com.microsoft.SkypeForBusiness userNameInAdvancedOnly false".  Then restart the client, enter sign-in address and click continue.  User will now see the user name. TechNet article here will be updated shortly.

When are we going to get to sort contacts by first or last name?

Hi @Chermaine Li ,

we are facing the following issue since several release and i have submitted this several times. On a non domain joined Mac, we don't see any meetings in the appropriate Tab. The "Exchange needs your credentials" error seems to be gone, but something is strange. Maybe your team can track this issue again?

Best regards

Jörg

@Chermaine Li,

When will the ability to record from the Mac client or through the browser on a Mac be available? We are wanting to move away from Webex to SfB, but some of the key features like recording are missing. Thanks, Noel

Do the updates apply to those homed within SfB Server 2015 CU5 or only to those homed within O365?

Microsoft

@Robert Barrett @Noel Smiddy - We are evaluating the feature requirements but both features are currently not scheduled.

@Cory Whipple - The changes apply to SfB 2016 and O365.

I just saw that my skype for business (mac) client received an update 16.12.77. Where are the release notes?

When will the skype for business mac client support the new screen sharing UDP protocol (vs RDP) features that the iOS/Windows platforms support?

"The VbSS feature is available in the Windows desktop, Windows Phone, Android, and iOS clients. Skype for Business for the Mac is only available in preview form and doesn't appear to support VbSS yet. The web application also doesn't support VbSS." vbSS uses UDP instead of RDP and does one to one and one to many vs peer to peer. Information relevant as of end of September.

Our company switched from webEx to skype for business meetings officially and mac users have terrible voice/screen sharing issues.

Microsoft

@Ryan Grant VBSS is supported on SfB Mac with SfBO today.

Copper Contributor

ok so the SfB Mac desktop client itself does not support VBSS still correct? Just the online client supports it?

Also can you comment on this older article blurb about VBSS usage and older clients on RDP:

"Early in 2016 Microsoft quietly added VBSS support to the ASMCU components in their Skype for Business Online platform.  This means that any conference hosted by a Skype for Business Online user and attended by only Skype for Business 2106 Windows clients can leverage VBSS for sharing their desktops.  If any older client versions were to join the meeting then the ASMCU will immediately step-down to using RDP, just as peer sessions were already reverting to RDP in the event that the receiving party would attempt to take remote control of the session."

My understanding then is, if you state SfBO is the method for us to utilize VBSS, then if mac desktop clients join, will it downgrade to RDP for everyone? Or is that blurb above outdated and now only the user with an RDP compatible client joins, it will not affect the VBSS users?

Iron Contributor

@Ryan Grantwhen you join a meeting on SfBO than the Mac Client can use VBSS. But for OnPrem this is atm not available, seems that some code changes on the server-side are neccessary.

Hi, can I ask when you finally repair following bug (https://www.uc.solutions/Skype_for_Business/Skype_for_Business_Client/General/Received_error_message...)? With this bug Skype for Business is useful as "racing homer". Lot of my colleagues getting error "this message wasn't sent" even message was sent and delivered.. lot of times they get this message but message is really undelivered. So I didnt get half of their messages. Lync on Mac was working quite well.
Microsoft

@Jindrich Skacel - We will need logs to look into this issue.  Can you please sign in with the Insider build, repro the issue, and report a bug?  Thanks!

Copper Contributor

@Jörg von der Ohe thanks but my question was more framed around if someone else joins the call that isn't VBSS compatible, then the ASMCU falls back to RDP for EVERYONE is what my blurb i found states. Is that true for today?

Iron Contributor

@Ryan Grant thats the limitation so far and i was told. When someone joins without a VBSS capable Client, the complete "meeting" falls back to RDP. And when the fallback to RDP happened and the non VBSS client leaves, the session will be still RDP.

Copper Contributor

I believe that is the answer potentially to why everyone in our company is complaining about SfB. One person joins with a non VBSS client and the quality/performance of the call/screen share goes to crap.

Microsoft

@Ryan Grant Yes that is correct.  If one client does not support VBSS the meeting will fall back to RDP.

Brass Contributor

@Chermaine Li Thank you for the reply.  The sorting is important to us, but I would agree with @Noel Smiddy that recording from a Mac is an important request.  To successfully sell SfBO as a replacement for WebEx, we need basic feature parity between Mac and Windows.  This is typically one of the first requirements we hear (recording, sharing windows/apps, etc.)

Copper Contributor

My Skype on Mac is crashing when someone is trying to share screen with me. Through the conference screen sharing is working fine. Is there a fix for this?

Thanks,

Mat

We still receive an error message if we want to add contacts to the budy list. If the contacts are added by WIN Client, they are displayed well in the budy list.

Thanks - Matthias
