Why is file:// hyperlink pointing to local network drive not working in SharePoint Online List

Hi Community,

Please suggest why this file:// hyperlink wouldn't open in Chrome/ IE/ Edge

If i paste the link directly in browser it works but the hyperlink from SP list doesn't do anything

Kindly suggest!

@Andrew Hodges It didn't work in any browser still!

Somethin is different with SP Online i believe!
