weird SharePoint bot site listed in Get-SPOsite

Brass Contributor

The Get-SPOSite result list includes a strange URL.

- it is http (not https)

- it begins with "bot" followed by 5 numbers, a dash, and 3 numbers

- followed by /sites/

- followed by a GUID

e.g.,

http: //bot12345-123/sites/a62544b8-f642-6f6f-b2a1-796428bdaa44

anybody know what that is?

Based on the URL format you've described, it's possible that the site is a SharePoint site that was created as part of a Microsoft Teams team. When a new team is created in Microsoft Teams, a corresponding SharePoint site is created in the backend to store the files and other content associated with the team.

The URL format you've described, with a "bot" prefix followed by numbers and a GUID, is a common format for Microsoft Teams-related SharePoint sites. The "bot" prefix may refer to the Microsoft Teams bot framework, which is used to build custom bots and integrations for Microsoft Teams.

If you're not using Microsoft Teams or don't recognize the site, it's possible that it was created as part of a Teams trial or by another user in your organization. You can try to access the site to see if it contains any content or information that may help identify its purpose or ownership. Alternatively, you may want to reach out to your IT department or Microsoft support for further assistance in identifying the site and determining if it's safe to delete.
