Upgrading SharePoint 2013 to 2016

New Contributor

I am new at SharePoint and I have been looking at the best way to upgrade my SharePoint 2013 to SharePoint 2016. I just don't know what will be the best route? Any help I would greatly appreciate it.

I have a SharePoint 2013 on a Windows Server 2012 R2 which I need to update to Windows server 2016. I also have a SQL 2012 on a Windows Server 2012 R2. Both servers need to get upgraded to 2016. I read that I need to first stand up 2 2016 servers one for SP and the other for SQL, then migrate the content over.

Is there a specific order that I should be doing this? Should I do my SQL first? Or it doesn't really matter? Any advice or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you all!

Hi!
You need first to setup your SP 2016 Farm and them do the upgrade using the DB Atach method for your content DBs
