Unknown Tiles in default Documents library (Teams Site)

Copper Contributor

Hi,

wondering why instead of the big folders I am presented with this as tiles:

I am using the Document library webpart on the home page of a Teams site.

Thank you!

Hi Woody,

It looks like you're seeing the tile view in your document library instead of the traditional folder view. This can happen when the default view settings are set to display items as tiles, which is often used to create a more visually appealing interface.

Here are a few things you can try:

Change the View: You can switch the view back to the traditional "List" or "Compact List" format by selecting it from the view options in the top right corner of the document library. Look for the dropdown where it currently says "Tiles" and select either "List" or "Compact List."

Modify the Web Part Settings: If you’re using the document library web part on a Teams site, check the settings of the web part to ensure it’s configured to display the view you prefer. You may be able to adjust it to show in a list format instead of tiles.

Refresh the Page: Sometimes a quick refresh can resolve temporary display issues.

Hi @Adeboye_Olaide, thanks for replying!

This issue started a week ago in the home page webpart for the default Documents library.

When we access the Documents library page, the same view (All Documents + Tiles) displays the folders as expected:

The webpart in the home page still displaying the white boxes when the tiles view is set.

Not sure what can I check further...

Hi Woody,

Thank you for the follow-up!

Based on your description, it seems that the issue is isolated to the Document Library web part on your homepage, while the actual Documents Library page displays the folders correctly in the "All Documents + Tiles" view.

Here are a few additional steps you can try:
Web Part Caching Issue: Sometimes, the web part on the homepage may cache an older view. Try removing the Document Library web part from the homepage, re-adding it, and then configuring the view to your preference.
View Settings on the Web Part: Even though the Documents Library itself displays correctly, the web part on the homepage might have independent view settings. Double-check the web part’s view settings and ensure that it's set to display the correct layout (e.g., "List" or "Compact List").
Web Part Permissions: If you have modified permissions on your site, the view settings of the web part might be restricted for some users. Ensure that your permissions are consistent with those on the Documents Library page.
If these steps don’t resolve the issue, it might be worth checking for any recent updates or changes made to the SharePoint or Teams site settings that could affect the web part display.

If you'd prefer, I can take a closer look and help you resolve the issue directly as a SharePoint and Teams expert. Just let me know, and I’d be happy to assist!

Best regards,

Olaide

Thanks a lot @Adeboye_Olaide

Deleted browser's cache, deleted the webpart... nothing.

With a different user, the folders are ok, note the 4 squares symbol:

With my account, the 4 squares symbol is different:

Both accounts have same permissions in the site and the library.

Funny stuff... 😉

@Woody @Adeboye_Olaide Having the same issue starting yesterday. Tried clearing caches adding the new documents library webpart but still the same . However someone on the team is seeing the yellow folder just fine.

Correct, but I cannot find any explanation for this weird behaviour so far... or any fix! 🙂
