Unable to create "Team Site" subsite in Sharepoint

I am trying to create a subsite using the "Team Site" template. When I click "Create", I get an access denied error. I have full control rights on the main site. I can, however, create a subsite using the "Blog" template. Is there a specific reason for why I am unable to create a subsite using the "Team Site" template?

@Jspieg According to the article "Using templates to create different kinds of SharePoint sites", it may vary depending on which version of SharePoint you are on.
