Unable to create a Rule for a hidden and calculated column in a SharePoint List

I would like to create a Rule for when a value changes in hidden calculated column in a SharePoint List. The column is hidden by being unticked in the View settings. Unfortunately the hidden column does not show up as an option when choosing the column to apply the rule to. Is this currently not possible for hidden columns or is this because I am trying to create a rule for a calculated column?

@BananaPanda in rules or JSON formatting a column must always be visible to be available.
