Suggestions for improvements to SharePoint Online Search results
You could say that our whole organization is unhappy with the state of SharePoint Search.
We have tried the following:
- Removing old/irrelevant data from Search
- Attempted to set up Cognitive AI using Azure Connectors (super limiting as it does not provide security trimming and doesn't index pages, only documents)
- Set up bookmarks, q&a, and acronyms (this works but you can only do so much). There is also a training curve to get people to continue to build this out.
What are others doing? I hear that this is a common complaint but I am not hearing solid solutions.
I would love to hear from you!
Hello seattlefive
you can configure filters or verticals in your Microsoft Search, i have blogged about this configurations: https://www.mehr365.com/artikel-publikationen/
Or for a fully customizeld search center, you can use the PnP Modern Search WebParts: https://microsoft-search.github.io/pnp-modern-search/
I have written more about the possibilities with search in M365: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/community/microsoft-365-search-technologies?WT.mc_id=DX-MVP-5004845

Hi Dave,
We looked at implementing Cognitive Search but it seemed unrefined and buggy. It also doesn't have security trimming and does not index pages (a great deal of our content are on pages). Do you have any one suggestion to improve search results in SPO/reducing irrelevant results across the tenancy? I am still struggling for a feasible solution.
Best, Jeff
