Sharepoint with Word and Excel

Copper Contributor

Hello, everyone,

my english is very bad so i use google translator.
I installed the Sharepoint version 2019 and now I have the problem that I don't know how to create Word or Excel files.
I'm using a SharePoint 2007 server, so it was easy to configure at the time.
I need help with the configuration of the new sharepoint so that you can create files and edit them in the browser.
Many thanks to everyone who helps me.
Greetings Thomas

To create and edit files in the browser you need to install Office Online Service on a separate server. It looks like a lot but it is fairly easy to install and configure. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/officeonlineserver/office-online-server

Hi PamDeGraffenreid,

thank you very much for the link.
I checked this out. It seems to be quite complex to install and configure the whole thing.
Have you done this before? Do you have any tips for me?

greetings Thomas

I have done this, and I agree the directions can be overwhelming. I had a single Office Online Server, which is easier. Here's a good youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vmzN9uyglk. Tip#1: don't run automatic updates, manually patch this one, reboot it when it's done whether it asks you to or not. I had problems with it hanging on updates about once a year. Tip#2: Save the Powershell scripts you use to configure. You'll reuse them when you update the certificates, and maybe if you need to troubleshoot or if there is a significant update.
