SharePoint Online ... how to remove a News item that is a 'link' rather than a 'post'

Referring to instructions at:

... I did the steps under "Add a news post by using a link', but it now seems impossible to remove
such a post by the steps under "Delete a news post or news link". I cannot find a way to remove a News item that is a 'link' rather than a 'post' on SharePoint Online? (The link I added was to a news story at npr.org, but that was purely experimental and now I have to get it out of my News web-part.)

News links are available on Site Pages library as all other pages and news post. News link can be removed from Site Pages library.
