SharePoint News Digest language settings

Copper Contributor

Hi, maybe someone can shed some light on this topic.

Our customer was wondering what determines the default language of the automated news digest, in particular the default e-mail text and message title. Some users receive the message in English "news you have missed" and some in German. Furthermore, while I am able to change the message text and title when I send the digest manually, it seems I am not able to edit the default message within the auto news digest. Please correct me if I am wrong here.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Kind regards

Ramy

Hi,
Can you advice if those users have English and German configured as language in Office 365 so that might be the reason they receive the news digest in English or German?

Thank you for your reply. I did some testing and regardless of the user language i am getting the message in german even if i set my language to english. I only did some tests with manually sending the news digest. I dont know if there is a difference to the "auto news digest". If i leave the message text inside a manually send news digest blank, it will autogenerate a text in german.

I am experiencing the same issue.
I have been testing a lot of different settings but i Can't find the relevant setting.
Here: https://tobii-my.sharepoint.com/_layouts/15/editprofile.aspx?UserSettingsProvider=dfb95e82-8132-404b...
I have been editing my regional settings: Changing the available languages and the setting for "defined by site administrator" vs "personal".
Still the Sharepoint news posts come in Swedish every time.
I cannot change the language here (https://myaccount.microsoft.com/settingsandprivacy/language) as it is centrally managed, and hard-coded to English.

Not sure where else to check but something is forcing the news mails to Swedish.

Update:
The setting was specific to the site collection I was sending the news from (not the user).
Check the locale in the region settings on a site (_layouts/15/regionalsetng.aspx) and confirm or change them.

Counter-intuitively, this is not controlled from the language setting on a site (_layouts/15/muisetng.aspx).

In my opinion, this is a mistake on MS/Product side: of course the language of the news emails should be defined by the language (not region) of the site.

Update locale on multiple sites borrowing some powershell from here:
https://www.sharepointdiary.com/2019/06/sharepoint-online-change-regional-settings-using-powershell....

Hope this saves someone else time........... because it was a waste of mine!

hi@alexrademeyer

i would like to know if you find a solution for your issue cause i have same.

i would like to manage the language of my news digest. i have un multi language site on sharepoint online... and i have to be able to send for one distribution list

and each user have to receive his notification in the right language... (french-English)

any help will be grateful !

Hi Lilly,
Yes and no :)
As described in my comment: the language of a news post is defined by the region settings of the SITE (not the user......).
so, for your use-case: No, I don't have a solution. all users would get news in the same language.
You might consider publishing the page in multiple translated languages (https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/microsoft-sharepoint-blog/new-sharepoint-feature-multilingual...) but that is not what this post is about- completely different topic.
