SharePoint and Teams External Sharing

Iron Contributor

We would like to enable sharing to utilise the B2B functionality but for testing purposes we just wanted to try it out on few classic SharePoint sites. We enabled the option to share with SharePoint and unfortunately all the Microsoft Teams sites switched on with random external sharing options for each site. Some of them had sharing enabled for existing users and other were with new/existing users.

Is there a way to enable the sharing option without enabling the teams sites

If I understand correctly, you have enabled external sharing at the tenant level - so what you would now need to do, is for any site that you do not want external sharing, you need to disable it at that site level.

See https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint/change-external-sharing-site

@Rob Ellis - Thanks for the reply.

The question really was around why the "Teams" SharePoint sites had different permissions when we enabled external sharing.

Is it possible that those different SharePoint sites were created at different times?

Depending on tenant settings at the time, that might account for the different settings.
