SharePoint 2016 Search Service Application Help

Copper Contributor

We recently installed SharePoint 2016. I did not do the installation but was told they chose the defaults all the way through. What I noticed when testing with a site collection was that whenever I attempted to search for anything, I received the following message:

The search request was unable to connect to the Search Service.

After logging into Central Admin I notice that the Search Service Application doesn't exist. When attempting to create it, I receive a generic, "Errors were encountered during the configuration of the Search Service Application". I also see numerous errors in the logs. The ones pertaining to search are as follows:

I have attempted numerous fixes, including trying to use PowerShell to provision the application. While this did install missing service applications, the search application would not start and I don't believe it was a complete install. I have since reversed that installation in hopes of finding a cleaner option.

My questions are, shouldn't the Search Service Application be installed by default? All of the previous SharePoint installations had search capability by default and it would work out of the box so to speak. Also, any clarification on these errors in order to resolve this issue would be GREATLY appreciated.
