SharePoint 2016 DBServer Installation

By installing a SharePoint 2016 farm, is it possible to install the database in a dbserver used by other business applications?
Can there be performance problems if the database does not reside in a db server exclusively dedicated to the SharePoint 2016 farm?

Yes, you can, but it is strongly not recommended. The instance used by SharePoint must have MAXDOP = 1, which can severly hamper performance of your other databases.

You can use multiple instances on a single SQL Server, but you must appropriately balance memory usage, and closely monitor CPU usage and Disk I/O (if sharing the same disk).

Thanks Trevor your response will be the same that I give to my it department when going to migrate to SharePoint 2016. But do you now if there is some documentation online that officially say the same things about your response?
