Share a site and recipient is visitor not member

I have a modern SharePoint site with external sharing enabled. By default, when a member shares a site the recipient becomes a member. Is it possible to make the recipients of sharing requests visitors rather than members?

you can choose the permission level, when you share a site:

Hi David. This only applies to when an Owner shares a site. A member does not appear to be given that option. Unless I'm missing something?

oh i see what you mean. Right, it's currently not possible to change the sharing level as member.
