Receiving Alerts even though calendar item was NOT modified - sent when "Dismissing" appt reminder

Hi, when creating a new event on a SharePoint calendar from within Outlook, and alerts is set to on for all changes, I am getting alerts on events even though no one modified them.  It seems like it is due to clicking "Dismiss" on the Outlook reminder.  Has anyone else experienced this issue and come up with a resolution?  Thanks.
