Printing a document directly from a SharePoint document library

I am tring to figure out if there is a way to print a document directly from a document library list without opening the document up.  Users are use to right-clicking on a Word document in Windows Explorer, selecting the Print option from the menu and having the doucment automatically print.  I have not been able to reproduce this process in SharePoint Online.  Any one have any ideas on how thsi can be done?

Hi John,

I don't believe the functionality has ever been in One Drive or Sharepoint online.

Options as I see it are

• Open in Word online and then you get the print facility (kind of replicates the preview)
• If you are syncing locally then the print facility is still there in Windows Explorer.

Not the best answer but I hope it helps?

This option doesn't exist in SharePoint as the general idea of SharePoint is to kill less trees ;)

If this is a requirement you will most likely be looking at a JavaScript solution. So somthing like this:

The main issue is that you don't have much control over how the document is printed. Therefore opening the document properly and making the application responsible for the printing is the easier option.

Another option is check if there are any third party productos that provides this functionality

The java script solution looks like it may work but I did not want to have to do any scripting.  I think I am sticking with the option of just opening the document and pritning it for now.
