Possible to redirect classic search box query to sharepoint.aspx?

Hi, our intranet is still using classic we'd like to be able to send all queries from its classic search box to SharePoint Home (sharepoint.aspx). In the advanced search settings for the root site it's possible to specify to have the queries sent to a custom url. Here I put sharepoint.aspx.

Firing off a query does indeed redirect to sharepoint.aspx. Unfortunately, the query itself (?k=test) is not passed to the search box. I suspect the reason is classic search queries use 'k' whereas modern serach box queries rely on the 'q' parameter.

Any idea if query transformation is possible?
