Picture libraries not showing thumbnails/image preview fails in modern UI

This issue only recently started. Simply cannot display image previews or thumbnails using the modern UI. when we switch to the "classic view" the picture librarys display correctly, previews and thumbnails. I put all the pictures up back in 2017, worked fine then.

W10pro/EI11/Edge  (same experience w7pro/IE11

what makes matters worse, the Mobile version of SharePoint recently quit displaying my picture librarys correctly also, making the app completely useless. My team needs these when on job sites!..

I have also experienced this annoying problem earlier but after a few days it "solved it self". 

Have you tried clearing the browser(s) cache? Does it behave the same if You try to open the page in Chrome?
