News Post Management Woes - Especially Deletions

Copper Contributor

Assumptions based on testing and analysis in SPO:

  • News posts exists as site pages in the Site Page library
  • Out-of-the-box functionality does not exist to assign a threshold of time for which a respective post is active and should be displayed; user(s) must regularly go behind that horse carriage and clean up the mess (outdated posts)
  • The ONLY way to delete a News post is to navigate to Site Contents->Site Pages and the weed through the list of site pages trying to locate the targeted News post(s) by Title

Commentary:

If the assumptions are true, this is way too much to expect of the average user, especially when he or she is used to being able to delete posts in Facebook, Twitter, etc. right at the post. If the respective site collection has grown large with numerous site pages, the exercise of clearing out "old" News posts is too cumbersome. Users will just say, "it doesn't work", and will not use the News web part.

I would have expected functionality that allowed the user to delete the post from the web part itself. Another reasonable expectation would be to assign an age threshold that regards how long the post is valid/active and then to clear out posts that are no longer active.

Questions:

Are all the assumptions above true (hoping I am just missing something)?

Is there a way to, at minimum, identify news post pages in the Site Pages library and then use that attribute to create a view for these pages (that would boost efficiency in news post management)?
