New Sharepoint Site Deployment options

Copper Contributor

Hi!

I'm new to SharePoint and have a few questions I'm hoping someone can help.

I have 3 on prem Servers right now: 1 DC, 1 File Server and 1 Exchange Server.

Everything works great, so no issues, everything is patched and running smoothly.

My boss wants to do SharePoint and wants options, but I don't know what to do with the Exchange Server.

Here are my questions and statements that I needs help with, please verify/clarify if I'm right or way off:

1) SharePoint On Prem is an option, Exchange Stays on Prem but Remote users need a VPN to access the SharePoint sites.

2) SharePoint stays on Prem and I can move my Exchange Server to Exchange Online either during the SharePoint install or at a later date, without affecting SharePoint functionality in any way (alerts, launching Outlook from SharePoint sites, using my company Domain (not OnMicrosoft.com), etc).  VPN still needed for SharePoint.

3) SharePoint is setup in a Hybrid Config, I still need SharePoint On Prem, Exchange Server stays on Prem without affecting SharePoint functionality in any way (alerts, launching Outlook from SharePoint sites, using my company Domain (not OnMicrosoft.com), etc).  No need for VPN for SharePoint.

4) SharePoint is setup in a Hybrid Config, I still need SharePoint on Prem, but Exchange moves to Exchange online without affecting SharePoint functionality in any way (alerts, launching Outlook from SharePoint sites, using my company Domain (not OnMicrosoft.com), etc).  No need for VPN for SharePoint.

5) SharePoint and Exchange are both moved Online with no on Prem Email or SharePoint Servers. DC and FileServers stay on Prem.  No need for VPN for Share.

I know that options 1 and 5 are right (right?)

I heard that if Exchange and SharePoint are separated (as in one is in the cloud and the other on Prem) then it messes things up.  As in it either does not work, or alerts and email in SharePoint do not work.

I defintatley appreciate any help here.

Thank you in advance!
