MS Sharepoint REST API

Hello,

I would like to ask if possible to create a REST API in order to read files (existing in Sharepoint) and add columns filling data from read files? Reading and creating  at once. Files can be in different formats like (.xls, .csv. .txt). Files contain some information.

@ArefHalmstrand that not about my case. I wrote already that main point is to read files in sharepoint and add new columns with values given from read file. Target is files in Sharepoint.
