Modern Search Results Not Displaying Titles

Iron Contributor

As we move on-premise sites to SharePoint online, we are noticing modern search results does not display the title field metadata but rather displaying filenames.  If we switch over to the classic search results, the titles will display as expected.  A ticket with Microsoft was opened but was given a word that this was an expected behavior.  This was not an expected answer we were hoping as we cannot imagine that we'd be the only ones dealing with this issue.  We have various medium that are uploaded to SharePoint, including DWG, PDFs (scanned), Office documents etc.  Often times those documents have title metadata attached to them which are different from the actual filename, these include scanners outputting unique identifiers as filenames on files.  What is the purpose of the title metadata field if we cannot display it?  Any suggestions or recommendations for handling this?  Switching over to classic search results is an option but it is suspected that it won't be around forever as Microsoft is pushing for modern search experience.

Hi Chris, take look at the Modern Search and Refiners at the GitHub repo:
https://github.com/SharePoint/sp-dev-solutions/tree/master/solutions/ModernSearch/react-search-refin...
It should fill your needs when switching from classic search to the modern version.
Very versatile and is still updated regularly.

@Wilco van GentThank you, I will take a look into this.

@Wilco van Gent  I presume the global search box cannot be connected to this new search page?
