@mention email notifications

@mention email notifications is it possible to disable these on an individual bases? https://support.office.com/en-us/article/why-am-i-receiving-email-notifications-from-office-3b68030d...

I have tried to disable this via the SharePoint admin center > More features > User profiles > Manager user profiles. However, the user is still receiving the email @mention email notifications.
