Megamenu links not saving.

Steel Contributor

Hi All - I am updating a megamenu and the URL I paste in are not saving.  I edit the menu.  Edit a 3rd level like by adding a URL.  Select Save.  When I check the link on the menu it  is still pointing at  '/' and not the URL I just entered.  I have refreshed the page, tried a different browser. Repeated the process and the URL still does not get saved.  Are there some limitations that I should be aware of?   Has anyone had the same experience?

I am using the Megamenu on a non-hub communication site.

Thanks - Greg

Yeah, it's been happening to mega menu and left nav menu etc. since release. You basically can't edit links you have to delete and add new one in it's place. At least for links that link to SharePoint content.

@Chris Webb  - Thanks Chris. This is helpful in that it let's me know what I am going to have to do. Do you know if this is an acknowledge bug that MSFT is working on?

Considering how long it's been I don't know if they are working on it or not. I do know they announced changes coming as far as Audience targeting etc. for the menu's so hopefully while they are in there architecture it for that they fix the issue :P.

@Chris Webb

I've just come across this issue myself.  I edit the menu link, but when I click the Save button, nothing happens, meaning the save dialog menu doesn't even go away.  I have to delete the menu item and recreate it.
I'm amazed that this bug has persisted for so long. :\

@Gregory Fick
Just found this bug. Why can't a link be longer than 255. I am very salty about it.
How can you have links longer than 255 characters in SP and then not save a long link?

Think I found a workaround. Create a multiple lines of text column and then enable hyperlinks.

There are times I wish the Microsoft software engineers were placed in a James Bond/Casino Royale situation and strapped to a chair.
