Left Navigation Appearance

Can anyone tell me why on one 'Team' site I have a modern left navigation and on another 'Team' site it's the old, ugly classic look as per attachments?

CLASSIC LEFT NAV ON PURPORTED 'MODERN' TEAM SITE (???)

Looking at your screen shots, you are seeing the old navigation experience on a settings page. MS hasn't updated the settings pages to the modern experience yet. If you have classic pages in a modern site, you experience the same thing.

This was simply arrived at by clicking the 'Edit' button on the bottom of the Left Nav. One site stays on the modern look and the other site takes me to that settings page. Although, the two sites were created in and around the same time in the same manner.
Even on the site settings page, the number of Site Collection options and other sections are more numerous on one than the other (??)
I'm confused.
